Say what?

"I'm saying the act of not choosing models of colour is racist. So... We're not calling them racist, we are saying the act is racist; what we are asking for is that you are based on your talent, on your beauty, not on the the colour of your skin."

Naomi Campbell, after a reported 15% of the models that took part in this months New York fashion week were of black and Asian origin.

So, basically, if I am correct, Naomi is saying the fact that ethnic models are poorly represented on the catwalks is due to their race which constitutes as racism. However, it's not really racism because that word is too strong. What she's saying is that it should be about talent and beauty. So, the fashion designers who primarily prefer to choose white models are not really racist but are racist in a sort of overt way according to Naomi but because she is scared of any potential controversy she has skirted around the issue.

I think that's what she meant, or did I get that wrong?
