The play
We laid out the plans for the coming months, deconstructing our
characters and pin pointing particular events in their lives that our scenes
could possibly be based upon. We quickly realised that when writing a piece that
focuses on true events how research is going to be used is the key element in the
process. We had already established that we had a main protagonist and some of
the main supporting characters; we also had a possible ending and a working title.
Coffee break…
We waded through pages of articles, journals, essays,
letters and autobiographical writings. We began to construct a timeline for which
the most significant events took place. Our work was most definitely cut out
for us. We brainstormed, debated and discussed our concepts and ideas. We scheduled
the next meeting and set out some individual targets to achieve by
the following week, particularly referring to the points of research that we
were yet to explore.
