Back in the days

I just love look books. And this is one of the best that I have poured over in a long while. Kindly loaned to me by David, it's a homage to the super stylish/slightly daring cats that were doing their things back in the good old 80's. A decade that has been skilfully captured by consummate photographer and author, Jamel Shabazz. Shabazz has caught the true essence of an up and coming generation of Afro/Caribbean Americans amidst the urban backdrop of  Brooklyn, New York.

Looking through this book it reiterates to me that nobody is particularly that 'unique' when it comes to style and fashion these days. The dudes in the 80's were doing it way before modern day pretenders even dreamed of a new fad. But, as with fashion, perhaps cynical people said the same about this 80's generation in regards to not being so original. However, from looking at these pictures I have a strong feeling these kids were authentically as fresh back then as these pictures look now.
