New York Music
Here's another old one for all the jazz heads - "I didn't know about you" by Thelonious Monk from the album 'Straight no chaser'. There's something about this song that just says New York at night to me. Although 'Monk' was not originally from N.Y he was raised and learnt his craft there and admittedly never wanted to leave the big apple and only did so to play his music to the world. He played alongside all of the greats from Dizzy Gillespie to Miles Davis and was definitely a part of the fabric that made up the quintessential era for jazz music in the mid 1940's and 50's New York. I suppose he would be fully qualified to embody the spirit of the magnificent city and allow it to manifest through his music albeit intentionally or not.
