The art of napping

A good nap could be argued to be one of life's most pleasurable experiences. A priceless thing that can more often than not go a long way to aiding the re - charging of batteries, restoring vigour and revitalising a weary body and mind. (Basically giving the body a little boost).

Ask anybody that you meet - if they have ever had a nap and you will be answered with same response. A resounding yes. Even dogs have naps, (don't ask them). Some individuals may require them more than others, we are all wired differently. Having said this, we all need a little 'pick me up' (please do not say this in earshot of your local pusherman) which results in us partaking in this delightful past time. The business of napping is not one to be sniffed at. Experts that take napping more seriously would perhaps be able to recall legendary naps that they have enjoyed over the years. And on further discussion would even be able to divulge their favourite places for carrying out splendid stints of recharging.

Napping is a completely different kettle of fish to a full nights sleep. A nights sleep is for a much longer amount of time and for the majority of us who are privy to a bed at night - this is generally the place in which we indulge in deep dream filled shut eye.

Napping, on the contrary, is for a far shorter amount of time. And unlike a quintessential nights sleep - it can be conducted in numerous places. It is far more versatile than its older more set in its ways sibling. Seasoned 'nappers' (official term for napping experts) will be fully aware that fulfilling naps can be carried out in variable places. Such as: a comfortable couch, an inviting chair, public transport (train, bus, coach) and even on a park bench, (see your local tramp for details).

As with most things in life the art of napping adheres to certain rules and regulations. Let's just say there is a napping etiquette that one must try and uphold. I shall break it down for you.

Synopsis...

  • Do not be greedy and nap for many hours. This is bad practise and breaks the rules and essence of a true nap.

  • Do not nap just before you go to bed at night. That is just silly, and is not conducive for a good nights sleep.

  • Never nap in the company of others. It demonstrates bad manners.

  • If you happen to have woken from a brilliant bout of napping verbalise it via words, not with fresh drool on your mouth area.

  • Do not abuse napping - the more you do the more you will want.

  • Unless you are a professional tramp/hobo/bum - it is best that you do not nap in open spaces. You are only setting yourself up to a multitude of potential mishaps. Leave that to the people in the know.

Well, my friends, if you did not already know about the fine art of napping, you do now. And if you feel comfortable with what you have read, then I urge you to go forth and nap.
