December Day

The early morning was starved of light.

It was AM but looked like PM.

Slowly, slowly the morning that looked like the night began to get bright.

Brighter, brighter still. It was accompanied by a hollow winter chill.

The people rose and left their homes.

Some walked in silence, some spoke and yawned into their phones.

The bus stop was crowded. The tubes were packed like sardines in a can.

Some wished that they were back in bed.

A man stuck in a traffic jam shook his frustrated head.

Excitable children asked their mummy if they could get sweets from the store.

A weary jogger returned home and momentarily rested against his front door.

A cold sigh of relief.

The eager workers were given their daily brief.

The December day was getting underway...
