Luther

With autumn fast approaching, I begin mentally planning for cosy nights in, watching the best tv and film can offer.

So, with that said I started thinking where's Luther, and when exactly is he returning to our screens?

For those who aren't familiar, Luther (played by Idris Elba) is a troubled, hot headed, volatile but extremely savvy and intelligent police detective.

Trouble seems to follow him wherever he goes, and he always seems to end up neck deep in mayhem that often his superiors become disillusioned with him and his mental state.

Two seasons have already aired over the years and I've been anxiously waiting for a third ever since the last chaotic, gripping season ended.

Apparently the third season will be the last, which  I am absolutely gutted about. Rumour has it that a film might be made at some point in the future, although I reckon that's just a pipe dream to appease us all. Most of us are still upset that each season averages a mere four or five, one hour long episodes. However, with Idris now a Hollywood commodity, it's understandable that something as simple as time must play a major factor into this. The relative shortness of the series are a gift and a curse, the later for obvious reasons but the gift is that every episode is essential, tense, and fantastically gripping.

The clever thing about this show is that it always leaves you wanting more, but at the same time it's always very decisive and brave in its outcome that your always left completely gob smacked and satisfied.

Just writing this in anticipation of the final season, has me thinking... On my list of things to do this weekend, purchasing the first two seasons on dvd over the weekend have just been added.

Luther is definitely Hall of Fame material for us here at the collective.
