Pigalle

Pigalle to some is just a dirty neighbourhood (red light district) in Paris where you can follow the hoards of tourists that would only go there to see the Moulin Rouge.  The saying comes to mind "One Man's trash is another man's treasure." In this case we are extending it to encompass a neighbourhood.

The founders of Pigalle didn't see their surroundings as a hindrance to achieve success but as a catalyst by embracing what was around them and taking influences via whatever form they happened to come in. This can be attributed to the New York brands of the 90's that overcame similar obstacles.

As with most successful streetwear labels Pigalle had room for growth and ventured into cut&sew. In the video below it's very apparent that an interesting mix of street and couture fashion is emerging, (the opera singer at the end kills it for me) from this infamous Paris arrondissement.

Pigalle is definitely merging the two polar opposites of a well known high end French scene, but what is more interesting and if at all possible that a fashion house can change the idea and noterity of a neighbourhood through its creativty and vision within the clothing industry.

So I'd suggest the next time or the first time you go to Pigalle, add the store to your itinerary instead of the Moulin Rouge.
