There's always some kind of drama
Anyone that knows me knows I am an absolute drama addict. You know the type, those dark BBC/ITV one offs with a good cast and even better plots. At the moment I am going absolutely bonkers over the latest installments of Line of Duty which is currently airing on BBC 1. Line of Duty centers around AC12, otherwise known as 'Anti Corruption'. This small team of police inspectors are charged with the task of investigating corrupt police, often undercover.
Each season in the most part are independant of each other, however, there is an over arching story line which is woven throughout all the seasons and seems to be coming to an explosive climax in this current installment. When the latest episode ended last week Thursday, I literally shouted at the TV demanding to know what happens next. Line of Duty is actually better than Idris Elba's Luther. And I never thought I would ever say that.
Next up... Marchella. This is currently airing on ITV and is in the first season. The main character is a Police inspector who returns back to work after years off raising a family. The problem is she seems to have blackouts whenever she gets extremely stressed and angry. Then she finds herself in a completely different space and time, confused and anxious about what she did during the time she lost. So while investigating a spate of murders that bare the hallmarks of an old case she worked on before she went on leave, she's inadvertently plonked herself in the mix due to her blackouts. It's a race against time to figure out what's happening before the rest of her colleagues do. But, it's never that simple and I'm sure that there are plenty plot twists to come, in these types of dramas, the rule is this: One add one never equals two. Never.
Another dark drama floating about on BBC1 at the moment is Undercover. I've only watched the first episode and looks OK. It defintely bares the hallmarks of an interesting series aswell as a strong cast. I mean the first episode stars the fella who played President Palmer in 24, now cast as a man on deathrow with hours until his scheduled lethal injection.
One of the main cast members is a lady who was working on his defense. Things got interesting when it appeared she had lost, only to hear news that the injection had failed and only managed to push him to the very limits of existence - on top of that shes a family lady, and something tells me not all is as it seems back at home in London.
The Five is also on the spin via Sky 1. This centers around a group of friends that hold a dark secret from childhood involving the mysterious disappearance of a boy. Now adults in various careers and individual lives, (one being a police inspector) their secret threatens to become exposed.
Especially when the detective investigating a generic murder case, is told that DNA recovered at the murder scene is that of the missing boy from all those years ago...
I don't get out much.
Joshua.
