Linguistic enrichment
A short while ago I was in a well renowned book store having a little look around. Eventually I gravitated to a section that housed a heavy selection of books pertaining to the fine language that is English.
On scanning and flicking through a few interestingly titled pieces I came across one that instantly grabbed me. The title alone was intriguingly snappy and the premise even more interesting - as it was something right up my street.
It goes without saying - that I find English to be a very rich and expressive language. Functionally, expressively, poetically - plus the array of many quirky sayings and phrases that it contains. It certainly continues to enthral me the more my lexical knowledge increases.
The book below deals with the side of the language that I just love. 'Spilling The Beans On The Cats Pyjamas' delves deep into the origins of commonly used sayings that us Brits roll off the tongue often without a second thought.
People may speak English, but, fully getting to grasps and understanding its popular expressions/sayings is an altogether entirely different kettle of fish (even a saying like that is ingrained into the mindset).
As one man I know aptly puts it: This level of language is basically "enrichment." And I for one fully agree. Lovely, quirky and often funny linguistic enrichment. This book is a must for all language lovers out there.
I am thouroughly enjoying reading it.
