Zimbabwe's ugliest man

If you're a regular or even a casual visitor to TCC you'll be aware that we love an interesting news story. And when the news of an ugliest man competition in Zimbabwe came to our attention - well of course we curiously raised an eyebrow.

So in the African country of Zimbabwe they hold an annual ugliest man pageant, as you do. Anyway, the former three times champion, Mr William Masvinu was ousted by an even more "ugly" chap, 42 year old Mison Sere. Well this man shocked the panel of judges with his incredible array of unsightly teeth horrible gums and putrid facial expressions. Subsequently Mr Sere walked away with the life changing prize fund of $500 with the much coveted title of Zimbabwe's worst-looking man. Lovely.  It goes without saying that you would think a contest such as this is bizarre to say the least, however it's good that an African bloke can make some easy cash for looking unattractive and perhaps use the money to improve his life, or get a backstreet face lift - well you would have thought this was his happy ending. Cash, fame, women. Unfortunately it didn't end there. Things got uglier.

Disgruntled former three times winner,William Masvinu was less than impressed that he had been dethroned as Zimbabwe's ugliest man. He vented his displeasure by accusing the judges of bias. "The judges were not fair, the organisers must look for new judges to start the competition afresh." He whined.

Bullishly claiming that he did not lose the competition as missing a few teeth does not make you ugly, "real ugliness comes from birth!" Basically bleating that he's always been ugly and that Mison is only ugly when he opens his mouth, before trudging away with his measly $100 winnings. (Although with that amount I'm sure he could have bought a nice hut by a river, some  livestock and a dilapidated vehicle). And If you think that was bad form another unhappy loser moaned that Mison had cheated, "Do we have to lose our teeth to win?!" (Probably wouldn't hurt).

Amidst this hullabaloo proud winner, Mison promptly thanked God for his win then gloated that he had spent months in preparation to nab this apparently much coveted prize. (Doing what exactly??) Anyway, he further proceeded to lay down the gauntlet to his rival with some aggressive fighting talk, telling him better luck next time (not so ugly man) then warning him that he had better come prepared for the next competition as he was there to stay. Crikey!

Mison fought off stiff competition from 33 other wannabes to win this prestigious award, which happened to be the most hotly contested since the awards inauguration which takes place in the nations capital of Harare. The shows organiser, some Zimbabwean dude who's name isn't important says that he created it to "celebrate beauty in ugliness," well what a nice man he sounds. This man believes the show is a success and dreams of one day having a world Mr Ugly.

Charming.
